2009 Silvaner Valle Isarco DOC

Lovely mountain white wine from an unusual grape variety.

This land is still called the Sudtirol by many locals, as it was Austrian until the settlement after the First World War. Named Alto Adige by the Italians, to indicate the higher reaches of the Adige river valley, this is some of the most difficult terrain in northern Italy.

Here this superb quality-conscious winery produces some outstanding wines.

This Silvaner comes from vineyards extending from 500-700 metres above sea level, situated in the valley the locals call the Eisacktaler, or Valle Isarco in Italian. The wine shows superb balance: well-defined minerality and special fruit, so typical of these vibrant mountain wines.
