European Union wins a battle against Australia

In the coming months an agreement will be signed between the European Union and the Australian government to ban the use of these names for wines produced in Australia. This agreement, that will be active from 2007 to allow the Australian producers to organise themselves, will widen a previous agreement signed in 1997 that prevented the Australians from naming their wines Chianti, Bordeaux, Cava or Madeira.
However, nothing yet is preventing the Australians from calling their wines “Pirenees”, “l’Alpine Valley” o il “Muscat”, names with a very European vibe.
